Gustavo Alonso López

Created in collaboration with trumpeter Jay Roulston, this new project presents Flamenco guitar in the context of a brass ensemble. 

Composed while serving as an Artist-In-Residence at the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation of New Mexico, López’s new work draws on influences ranging from Flamenco to Jazz, film music, and Minimalism. He received additional support from Artist Trust and the Ucross Foundation.

Firmly grounded in the traditions of Spanish Flamenco, Sonanta Con Metales is also rooted in the lands of the American West. López’s compositions are cinematic in nature, evoking images of parched landscapes, vast horizons, and movement through space.
